Life’s a Witch is all Weird

I’m experiencing “technical difficulties” so updates for Life’s a Witch will be sporadic.. and in pencil!  EGADS!

Don’t worry, though.  The comic will get back to it’s normal, vibrantly-colored and regularly-updating self soon once I get the chance to figure out what is going on with my computer and/or my graphic tablet.  In the meantime, enjoy seeing Witchy and company drawn in a different way!

So you don’t miss an update or blog post, please consider subscribing to my RSS feed in your feed reader, or getting the feed delivered directly to your email.

Nahast trudges on!

Last week, Nahast ended its eighth chapter, the first to be hosted by Spiderforest. Blood of Two Rivers focused on Niriko, the half-elf girl in the Hawk Maidens, and gave some insight on elven culture in Nahast and just what kind of SOBs the pointy-eared buggers are ;)

More as a footnote than a celebration, the Chronicles of the 5th Age site now features a short story called “Deeta’s Lament“, which gives a look at the motives and epilogue of the chapter’s main antagonist, Deeta, who is none other than Niriko’s elven mother.

Now, with no time to lose, Nahast posts its 250th page with the beginning of Chapter 9: Voices from the Darkness! The night is not over for the heroes, as Behari, who was wounded by a poisoned arrow during Chapter 8, is now fighting for her life.

Several secrets hinted at in previous chapter will receive additional clues, and the major players of the shadow war that threatens the city will be revealed! Glimpes of the future and insights into the past! Secrets of the spirit world and the dread Region of the Dead! In Chapter 9, the main plot of the entire comic will truly start unraveling so, keep reading!

Something to talk about…

This is too cool not to share!

A while back, reader Roger Ellingham (known in the comment list here at Requiem as Count Thalim) got a hold of me privately about doing a satellite imagery style picture of the main continent (Ainm Baile) that much of Requiem takes place on.  Well today, he emailed me the final product.

What the good Count did was take the map that I had designed and layered satellite imagery from a whole ton of different NASA pictures to come up with the first satellite pictures of the world you are reading about.  I’ve been staring at it off and on for hours now, and I have to tell you that it is incredible.

So without further ado, I present to you one of the coolest things that I have ever seen.  it is visible right HERE

Thank you good sir, you have made my holiday!!!

Day of the Ninja is here!

Heroes and Legends presents the Moonshades

Nahast: Heroes and Legends presents the Moonshades

That is right! Day of the Ninja is upon us, and to celebrate, Nahast is prelaunching the Heroes & Legends site to give you all a peek on Nahast’s elite order of spies and assassins: the Moonshades!

They are more than sexy, pajama-wearing, posterior-kicking girls, they are a shadow nation behind the thrones of a whole empire, oiling the wheels of Things As Usual, and basically acting as the stagehands of the Empire of Solerne’s fate.

Learn about their history, their legends, their operations and the rift in their ranks that threatens to spill over the daylight lives and threaten the Empire itself. They may go by their own titles, but a ninja by any other name sneaks just as deadly…

Go now!

I live!

Ok Post Hurrican, nothing in the gulf right now….

Avernyght has been on an unplanned Hiatus thanks to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.  Well I AM working on a new page but it’s future depends on when I finish all the school work that I’ve gotten behind on because of all of this.  So! Avernyght is NOT gone, it IS coming back, and I AM alive!

Sudden Flash of Inspiration

Usually, I have ideas for one or two chapters of Nahast ahead of the current storyline; I have time to figure out the theme, goal, cool scenes and what I want to accomplish with it. This process usually takes me several days of random thought and inspiration, then several months of actual execution.

Well… today inspiration struck. Hard. Like a Mack truck.

I had the next episode pretty much laid out, but I started thinking that I wanted to squeeze in some aftermath to the current chapter, to bring closure to a few situations. Then the idea began to snowball. It grew during lunch, gaining cool scene idea after cool scene idea, then the theme to tie it all together came out on its own, dragging along the perfect place to drop a major plot point in the overall story.

So… the next episode is not going to be a fun action chapter peppered with some background plotting and the aforementioned major plot point dropped with not as much weight. It’s going to possibly be one of the darkest, most intense and full of pathos chapter so far, and in a very long while.

I’d give details, but I’d be spoiling, and in any case the current episode is not slated to end in at least 4 months at a steady weekly update pace. The only living soul I’ve told is my girlfriend, who is both my muse and my soundboard.

Which brings me to a second question: I thought to do as many other webcomics do, which is a full chapter update rather than a weekly update. I’d ask readers for patience and other artists for guest strips while I do the whole package to be uploaded in a single go. The idea is that the story is going to be a very cathartic episode in the lives of four of the protagonists, and a weekly schedule might dilute the emotional effect.

Accomplishing the deed is another matter, though… without the pressure of a scheduled update I think I could produce three pages a week, the thing would be how much pressure I will get when the story reaches that point.
